UGH. Cupid stopped by to visit Lola this morning and she hissed at him.
We know your feeds have likely been flooded with lovey-dovey Valentine’s Day posts about homeless animals just itching to be your one and only today. Don’t get us wrong… we’re 100% on board with all the adorable matchmaking we’re seeing.
But, if you’re the type of person who thinks Valentine’s Day is a bit of a hoax, or you cringe at the thought of expressing your feelings or showing ANY sort of affection… Lola might be your girl.
This calico girl’s distaste for February 14 might be due to her touch of commitment issues (no judgement here). More likely, it’s because she just feels very misunderstood as she watches other cats come and go while she waits and waits and waits for someone to give her a chance.
Here’s the thing: Lola has been in our care for 157 days. She was surrendered to us when her beloved owner passed away. Lola — having spent her entire life with someone who was her cherished companion and true sense of Home — has been really struggling ever since.
Her guard is up and she is very uncomfortable navigating her new reality without the one person who understood her.
This beautiful girl is what we would classify as a Spirit Cat — a cat that wants to be treated more like your incredibly introverted roommate than your bubbly best friend. She would do best in a low-traffic home with plenty of hidey spots where her boundaries will be respected and upheld by all members of the family — human and animal alike.
So, yeah… We’re looking for a pretty specific kind of adopter… ideally one comfortable with having those kind of awkward conversations with guests who aren’t totally convinced Lola is real but are seeing clues (such as her water bowl, mouse toy and litter box). 2023 could be the year of the imaginary friend… just sayin’!
As you can imagine, the bustling shelter environment has been hard on her. She’s doing her best, but it’s important we get her home soon so she can decompress and begin the journey of mending her broken heart.
If we could play Cupid for Lola (don’t tell her we said that!), we’d find her someone who firmly believes that although she isn’t an in-your-face kinda gal, she’s still deserving of feeling safe and loved. The best way to show her love is by accepting her just as she is.
And no, she will NOT want you to go out of your way to prove your love to the world on Valentine’s Day, either. Just thinking about it gives her the icks, tbh.
